The District Attorney is responsible for prosecuting felony criminal offenses that are committed in Williamson County. A felony means any offense that is punishable by a sentence of death or confinement in prison or state jail. Such offenses include murder, robbery, sexual assault, burglary and major drug and theft offenses. [Misdemeanor offenses generally are prosecuted by the County Attorney]. The District Attorney of Williamson County is John Bradley. He was appointed to the office by Governor Rick Perry in December of 2001 and then was elected in November 2002. For more information on the District Attorney, click on the Staff link.
The District Attorney hires assistant district attorneys, investigators, and support personnel to prosecute the felony criminal offenses in the District Courts. The District Attorney also provides information and support to victims of crimes and hires a trained professional to work as a Victim/Witness Coordinator.
The District Attorney also serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC). The CAC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe place for children to report abuse. For more information, click on the CAC link.
