John Bradley was appointed by Governor Rick Perry in December 2001 to serve as Williamson County District Attorney. Mr. Bradley ran a contested race and was elected to the office in 2002. He was re-elected in uncontested race in 2004 and 2008.
Mr. Bradley graduated from the University of Houston Law Center in 1985. He then worked for Judge Charles Campbell at the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin. He read records of trials, researched the law and drafted opinions before becoming a prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’ Office in 1987. In 1989, he moved to Georgetown and began working as a felony prosecutor in the Williamson County District Attorney's Office, eventually serving as the First Assistant District Attorney for five years.

Mr. Bradley also has worked for the Texas Legislature. He helped rewrite the Penal Code in 1993 as a staff member for the Punishment Standards Commission and subsequently served as general counsel for the Senate Criminal Justice Committee under the direction of Senator John Whitmire (D-Houston). In 1996, he served on then Governor George W. Bush’s Committee to Rewrite the Code of Criminal Procedure. He remains active in the legislative process.

Mr. Bradley speaks regularly at continuing legal education seminars in Texas and is frequently invited to speak throughout the United States. Both TDCAA and the National College of District Attorneys (NCDA) have publicly recognized him for his service through legal education. In 1993, TDCAA presented him with the Oscar A. Sherrell Memorial Award for distinguished service to the Association and the legal profession. In 2003, TDCAA presented him with the C. Chris Marshall Distinguished Faculty Award for outstanding contributions to the education of Texas prosecutors. In 2005, NCDA presented him with the Steven Von Riesen Lecturer of Merit Award, National College of District Attorneys for exceptional service in continuing education of prosecutors. In 2007, the Texas Crime Victim Clearinghouse awarded Mr. Bradley the Danny Hill Award as an outstanding prosecutor upholding victims' rights. In 2009, TDCAA named him Prosecutor of the Year.
Mr. Bradley has appeared on Court TV, Investigational Discovery, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer, and National Public Radio and is a frequent contributor to legal magazines and newspapers. He also has authored or co-authored several books, including Texas Sentencing, Predicate Questions Manual, and The Perfect Plea.
Mr. Bradley also loves Apple computers. He has been married since 1982 and has three children.
