District Attorney

John Bradley was appointed by Governor Rick Perry in December 2001 to serve as Williamson County District Attorney. Mr. Bradley ran a contested race and was elected to the office in 2002. He was re-elected in uncontested race in 2004 and 2008.

Mr. Bradley graduated from the University of Houston Law Center in 1985. He then worked for Judge Charles Campbell at the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin.  He read records of trials, researched the law and drafted opinions before becoming a prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’ Office in 1987. In 1989, he moved to Georgetown and began working as a felony prosecutor in the Williamson County District Attorney's Office, eventually serving as the First Assistant District Attorney for five years.

Mr. Bradley also has worked for the Texas Legislature.  He helped rewrite the Penal Code in 1993 as a staff member for the Punishment Standards Commission and subsequently served as general counsel for the Senate Criminal Justice Committee under the direction of Senator John Whitmire (D-Houston). In 1996, he served on then Governor George W. Bush’s Committee to Rewrite the Code of Criminal Procedure. He remains active in the legislative process.

Mr. Bradley speaks regularly at continuing legal education seminars in Texas and is frequently invited to speak throughout the United States. Both TDCAA and the National College of District Attorneys (NCDA) have publicly recognized him for his service through legal education.  In 1993, TDCAA presented him with the Oscar A. Sherrell Memorial Award for distinguished service to the Association and the legal profession. In 2003, TDCAA presented him with the C. Chris Marshall Distinguished Faculty Award for outstanding contributions to the education of Texas prosecutors. In 2005, NCDA presented him with the Steven Von Riesen Lecturer of Merit Award, National College of District Attorneys for exceptional service in continuing education of prosecutors.  In 2007, the Texas Crime Victim Clearinghouse awarded Mr. Bradley the Danny Hill Award as an outstanding prosecutor upholding victims' rights.  In 2009, TDCAA named him Prosecutor of the Year.

Mr. Bradley has appeared on Court TV, Investigational Discovery, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer, and National Public Radio and is a frequent contributor to legal magazines and newspapers. He also has authored or co-authored several books, including Texas Sentencing, Predicate Questions Manual, and The Perfect Plea.

Mr. Bradley also loves Apple computers. He has been married since 1982 and has three children.

First Assistant District Attorney

Jana McCown, First Assistant District Attorney

Jana McCown is the first assistant district attorney. The first assistant district attorney is responsible for coordinating the intake of new criminal cases and supervising the work of prosecutors and investigators. In addition, the first assistant district attorney evaluates unindicted cases and makes preindictment offers when appropriate.  She also handles all open records requests.

Jana McCown graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1981 and earned her J.D. degree from Southern Methodist University in 1985. She was board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1993.

Ms. McCown joined the DA's office in 1994. She previously served as an assistant district attorney in Harris County, an assistant attorney general, and as counsel for the State Bar Disciplinary Office.

Doug Arnold, Assistant District Attorney

Doug Arnold is an assistant district attorney assigned to handle post conviction matters, including appeals and writs of habeas corpus.  He graduated from University of Texas in 1990 and earned a J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1993. He also was board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1999.

Mr. Arnold joined the DA's office in 1998. He previously served as an assistant district attorney in Harris County and as a briefing attorney for Judge Charles Campbell on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

Civil Prosecutor

Tommy Coleman, Prosecutor Handling Civil Matters

Tommy Coleman is an assistant district attorney assigned to handle civil matters for the District Attorney's Office. His duties includes litigation of asset forfeitures, bail bond forfeitures, open records requests, expunction petitions, requests for nondisclosure orders, extraditions and responding to civil subpoenas. He also provides advice and support in cases involving financial crimes. He graduated from Texas Wesleyan University in 1996 and earned his J.D. degree from South Texas College of Law in 2000.

Mr. Coleman joined the DA's office in 2008. He previously served as an assistant county attorney and as an employee of the county auditor's office.

Victim Witness Coordinator

Irene Briones-Odom, Victim Witness Coordinator

Irene Briones-Odom is the Victim/Witness Coordinator for Williamson County District Attorney’s Office. She ensures that a victim, guardian of a victim, or close relative of a deceased victim is afforded the rights granted to them by Chapter 56 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Ms. Briones-Odom works closely with appropriate law enforcement agencies, prosecuting attorneys and the Board of Pardons and Paroles in carrying out those duties.

Ms. Briones-Odom joined the DA’s office in 2002. She previously worked in the Protective Order Division of the Williamson County Attorney’s Office and has been a licensed court interpreter (Spanish) since 2000. Ms. Briones-Odom is a member of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association (TDCAA) and serves on the Victim Impact Statement (VIS) revision panel for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Intake Prosecutor: Cody Henson, Assistant District Attorney

Cody Henson is an assistant district attorney assigned to screen new cases in the 277th District Court and work with local law enforcement drafting search and arrest warrants. His main duty is to dispose of state jail felony cases and seeking preindictment resolutions in appropriate cases. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 2003 and earned a Masters in Business Administration at Tech in 2004 and his J.D. degree from New England School of Law in 2008.

Mr. Henson joined the DA's office in 2009. He previously served as an assistant district attorney in Harris County.

 

Trial Prosecutor: Philip D. Ray, Assistant District Attorney

Philip D. Ray is an assistant district attorney assigned to prosecute felony cases in the 368th District Court. He graduated from Austin College in August 1994 and earned his J.D. degree from Texas Tech School of Law in May 2000. He has been licensed to practice law since November 2001.

Mr. Ray joined the DA's office in 2008. He previously served as a prosecutor in Hood, Cooke and Potter Counties. 


Trial Prosecutor: Jennifer Earls, Assistant District Attorney

Jennifer Earls is an assistant district attorney assigned to prosecute felony cases in the 26th District Court.  In addition, she provides training for local law enforcement.  She graduated from Texas A&M University in 1989 and earned her J.D. from University of Houston Law Center in 1994.  She was board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2003.

Ms. Earls joined the DA's office in 2002. She previously served as an assistant district attorney in Smith County, Texas and also Delaware County, Oklahoma.

Mr. Prezas joined the DA's office in 2009. He previously served as an assistant county attorney in Williamson County and as an associate in Baker Botts LLP.

Trial Prosecutor: Jane Starnes, Trial Attorney

Jane Starnes is an assistant district attorney assigned to prosecute felony cases in the 277th District Court. She graduated from University of Texas in 1993 and earned a J.D. from the University of Houston in 1996. She was board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2002.

Ms. Starnes joined the DA's office in 1999. She previously served as an assistant district attorney in Harris County.

Trial Prosecutor: Michael Jarrett, Assistant District Attorney

Michael Jarrett is an assistant district attorney assigned to prosecute felony cases in the 277th District Court. He graduated from Baylor University in 1998 and earned his J.D. degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 2001.

Mr. Jarrett joined the DA's office in 2008. He previously served as an assistant district attorney in Dallas County.

Travis McDonald is an assistant district attorney assigned to screen new cases in the 368th District Court and work with local law enforcement in drafting search and arrest warrants. His main duty is to dispose of the state jail felony cases and seek preindictment resolutions in appropriate cases.  Mr. McDonald graduated from Texas Tech University in 1976 and earned a J.D. from University of Houston in 1983. He was board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1990.

Mr. McDonald joined the DA’s office in 1996. He previously served as an assistant district attorney in Waller County.

Trial Prosecutor: Robert M. McCabe, Jr., Assistant District Attorney

Robert McCabe is an assistant district attorney assigned to prosecute felony cases in the 368th  District Court.  He graduated from Sam Houston State University in August 1997 and earned his J.D. degree from the St. Mary's University School of Law in May 2000. He was board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2008.

Mr. McCabe joined the DA's office in 2005. He previously served as an assistant district attorney in Bexar County.

Trial Attorney: Lindsey Roberts, Assistant District Attorney

Lindsey Roberts is an assistant district attorney assigned to prosecute felony cases in the 26th District Court.  In addition, he provides training for local law enforcement.  He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas in 1989 and earned his J.D. from Southern Methodist University in 1992. He was board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2002.

Mr. Roberts joined the DA's office in December 2005. He previously served as the training director for the Texas District and County Attorneys Association, a prosecutor at the Dallas Criminal District Attorney's office and as a briefing attorney at the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
