Williamson County has reorganized several departments this fiscal year in an effort to create a management structure that more closely mirrors standard business practices. Cost centers under the Commissioners Court have been organized into a structure reporting to five senior directors, reducing the number of positions that directly report to the Court. The senior directors are charged with keeping the County Judge and Commissioners Court informed and up to date on daily operations in their areas.

In 2000, Williamson County was home to 249,982 people. The current estimate is 394,193, making Williamson County the second fastest growing county in Texas.

The Williamson County Tax Assessor/Collector’s office reminds property owners that property owners have an extra day in which to pay their property tax since January 31, the state mandated deadline to pay property taxes, falls on the weekend. Property tax payments will be due February 1, 2010.

On January 19, the Williamson County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to eliminate the Freeport property tax effective January 2010 after obtaining agreements from existing companies that pay the tax to phase it out. The Freeport Tax will reduce by 20% per year for the companies who have signed the agreement and in 2014 will be totally eliminated.
